When someone asks you what do you know for sure, how do you answer?
If you had time to think before you answered you might say:
- I’m breathing.
- I’m male (or female).
- I’m not perfect.
Obviously there are additional possibilities you could come up with.
Here are some further details you know for sure:
- Evolution requires faith.
- Elvis is dead.
- The sky looks blue today (or doesn’t).
But perhaps when someone asks what do you know for sure they’re hoping for more than flippancy.
Sorting the Possibilities
The question what do you know for sure is often asked to stimulate a discussion of truth. What do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt is the truth?
What is your answer?
We would like to be profound, wouldn’t we?
Well, here is a little help.
What is Sure
The next time someone says, “What do you know for sure?”
Answer this way, “God loves me.”
Their comeback could very well be, “How do you know that for sure?”
Your answer? “Because God sent Jesus.”
“So I’m telling you what I know for sure … God loves me.”
